"Like
all religious, our entire Order is subject to the Roman Pontiff as its
highest superior and is obliged to obey him by virtue of the vow of
obedience." (LCO 21). The first, short, message of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has much to offer the discerner. The Holy Father's trust in God and his commendation to the prayers of those whom he serves point to a Pope who acknowledges his need for grace and intercession; we do well to follow him. Homily for the Mass of Priestly Ordination, 4th Sunday of Easter (Good Shepherd Sunday) (29 April 2007) "The Lord's goodness is always with you, and it is powerful." Message at the Regina Coeli for Good Shepherd Sunday (29 April 2007) "In the Church, however, there are some vocations which are dedicated especially to the service of communion." Message for the 44th World Day of Prayer for Vocations (29 April 2007) "In order to foster vocations, therefore, it is important that pastoral activity be attentive to the mystery of the Church as communion..." Pope replies to Seminarians' questions (17 February 2007) "It is important to ... be guided also by people who have ... experience with God and help us along this path." Message for World Day of Consecrated Life (2 February 2007) "...in choosing Christ we let ourselves be 'conquered' by him without reserve." Address to Superiors-General of Institutes of Consecrated Life (22 May 2006) "Belonging to the Lord: this is the mission ... so that the world may believe and be saved." Homily for the Mass of Priestly Ordination, 4th Sunday of Easter (Good Shepherd Sunday) (7 May 2006) "...I must learn to abandon myself; to keep myself available for whatever he, the Lord, needs of me..." Message for the 43rd World Day of Prayer for Vocations (7 May 2006) Vocation in the mystery of the Church Homily for World Day of Consecrated Life on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (2 February 2006) "Your way of living and working can vividly express full belonging to the one Lord..." Address to the Men and Women Religious ... of the Diocese of Rome (10 December 2005) "May your first and supreme desire therefore be to witness to the fact that God should be listened to and loved with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your might, before any other person or thing." Letter to the Prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (25 September 2005) "..you must carry out your precious and delicate work in a context of gratitude to God, who continues still today to enrich his Church with ever new charisms with the creativity and generosity of his Spirit." Message to Seminarians attending World Youth Day, Cologne Germany (19 August 2005) "The better you know Jesus the more his mystery attracts you. The more you discover him, the more you are moved to seek him. This is a movement of the spirit which lasts throughout life, and which makes the seminary a time of immense promise, a true 'springtime'." Address to the Bishops of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands (26 June 2005) "..configured to Christ who emptied himself taking the form of a servant, the priest lives a life of simplicity, chastity and humble service, which inspires others by example." Homily for the Mass of Priestly Ordination, Pentecost Sunday (15 May 2005) "Allow yourselves to be drawn ever anew by the Holy Eucharist, by communion of life with Christ. Consider the centre of each day the possibility to celebrate the Eucharist worthily. Lead people ever anew to this mystery." First appearance (20 April 2005) "And above all, I entrust myself to your prayers." Archive: Pope John Paul II |
