ST DOMINIC'S NINE WAYS OF PRAYER [link]
St Dominic's Nine Ways of Prayer

PREPARATION FOR MASS
St Thomas Aquinas, friar, Priest and Doctor of the Church

Almighty, everlasting God,
behold, I approach the sacrament of your Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

I come to it as a sick man to the physician who will save his life,
as a man unclean to the fountain of mercy,
a blind man to the radiance of eternal light,
one poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth;

praying that in your boundless generosity you will deign to cure my sickness,
wash my defilement away,
enlighten my blindness,
enrich my poverty,
and clothe my nakedness.

May the Bread of angels,
the King of kings and
Lord of lords,
be received by me with such humble reverence and devout contrition,
such faith and purity,
and such good resolutions as may help the salvation of my soul.

Grant me grace, I beseech you,
to receive not only the sacrament of our Lord's body and blood,
but also its inward power and effect.

All-gentle God,
grant that my receiving of that body,
taken from the virgin Mary's womb by your Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
may fit me to become part of his mystical body and to be reckoned one of its members. Most loving Father, grant that your beloved Son whom I, an earthly wayfarer, am now to receive in his sacramental guise, may one day give me sight of face and let me gaze upon him for all eternity; who is God, living and reigning with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

THANKSGIVING AFTER MASS
St Catherine of Siena, virgin and Doctor of the Church

In praise of God's love

O all powerful and eternal Trinity! O sweet and ineffable Charity!
Who would not be inflamed by so much love?
What heart could refuse expending all for You?

O abyss of charity!
You are so intensely attached to Your creatures that it would almost seem You cannot live without them! Yet, You are God, having no need of us. Since You are unchangeable, our well-being adds nothing to Your greatness. Our wickedness causes You no harm since You are the sovereign and eternal Goodness. What is it that inspires You with such compassion?

It is love. For You have no obligation towards us, no need for us.
What draws You then, O infinite God, to me Your puny creature?

It is nothing else than Yourself, Fire of Love! Love always, Love alone has impelled and still impels Your tenderness towards Your creatures, filling them with infinite graces and priceless gifts.

O Supreme Benevolence,
You alone are supremely good! You have given us the Word, Your Son, to live with us, in touch with such corruption, such darkness. What is the cause of this gift?

Love! For you loves us before we even were.

O Eternal Magnificence!
O Immensity of Goodness!
You abased Yourself, becoming little,
   that man might become great.

On whichever side I turn, I find on the abyss and fire of Your charity.

TO THE MOST HOLY SACRAMENT
St Thomas Aquinas, friar, Priest and Doctor of the Church

O Sacred Banquet,
in which Christ is received,
the memory of his Passion is renewed,
the mind is filled with grace,
and we are given the pledge of future glory.

V.   You have given them bread from heaven.
R.   Having in itself the source of all delight.

Let us pray:

O God,
who have left us in this wonderful Sacrament
the abiding memorial of your Passion,
make us, we pray,
so to venerate the Sacred Mysteries of your Body and Blood,
that we may always know within us the fruit of your redemption.
You who live and reign for ever and ever.  Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE DECEASED BRETHREN   Psalm 129 (130)

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord,
Lord, hear my voice!
O let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleading.

If you, O Lord, should mark our guilt,
Lord, who would survive?
But with you is found forgiveness:
for this we revere you.

My soul is waiting for the Lord,
I count on his word.
My soul is longing for the Lord,
more than watchman for daybreak.
Let the watchman count on daybreak
and Israel on the Lord.
Because with the Lord there is mercy
and fulness of redemption.

Israel indeed he will redeem
from all its iniquity.

V.   Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
R.   And let perpetual light shine upon them.

O God,
Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful,
Grant to the souls of your departed servants the remission of all their sins.
May our loving prayers obtain for them the forgiveness they have always desired.
You Who live and reign for ever and ever.  Amen.

May they rest in peace.  Amen.

INVOCATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Before meditation

Come, Holy Spirit
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.

V.   Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
R.   And you shall renew the face of the earth.

O God,
Who did instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant to us that in the same Spirit we may relish what is right
and ever rejoice in his consolation.
Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
